EMPLOYMENT

Feb 2009 - Present

Full-time employment with CPDcast Limited. After another short stint contracting with CPDcast® I took full-time employment and continue to improve and expand the CPDcast.com website.

Jan 2009 - Feb 2009

As a Contractor for CPDcast.com Limited. I returned to CPDcast® at their request to work on another set of additions to the site for their ever expanding user base. The site continues to run successfully on the LAMP stack and the Symfony framework.

Aug 2008 - Dec 2008

As a Contractor for Work Digital. I was employed here on a short contract to create an Ad Serving platform for this companies Job Search site.  I created a standalone solution built primarily on the Zend Framework and Doctrine that integrated into the search site.  I also got to grips with Amazons EC2 service here which is a 'Cloud Computing' platform as this was where we rolled out the application to.

Mar 2008 - Jun 2008

As a Contractor for CPDcast.com Limited. This is an exciting new start up aiming to revolutionise the way Lawyers in the UK fulfil their CPD in the form of Podcasts via a website (http://www.cpdcast.com). The system is accompanied by a back-end to enable an administrator to perform tasks, such as: uploading new Podcasts, viewing reports and setting up offers and redeem codes. I worked with the client to develop their needs and ideas into feature sets and with an accessibility and CSS expert to create the system. The site runs on a LAMP setup and is built in PHP5 on top of the Symfony framework.

Nov 2005 - Mar 2008

The Technology Works International Limited/TradeDoubler. This is a mid-sized Internet marketing company that use their own bid management software. I was employed here as a PHP developer as part of a team of seven. I primarily worked on projects to do with the bid management software, which is in use across five markets (UK, Germany, France, Korea and Japan), and later on in my time here worked as lead developer on a project to overhaul the legacy architecture of this system. The project also saw me take on an architect role and I used UML diagrams to document the design of the system.

The group this company was part of was bought out by TradeDoubler in 2007 and I was involved in the sale process when I was asked to do a code review with a consultant from TradeDoubler. The deal was completed in late July 2007 for £56 million.

Jun 2003 - Oct 2005

Crosby Communications Ltd. This is a small sized telecommunications service provider with their own data centre. I was employed in a multi role position, which involved developing new applications to integrate with an in-house SMS system and their third party IVR platform as well as looking after some of the infrastructure. It was here that I started to develop my OOA/D skills due to the increase in software development I was involved with.

Nov 2001 – Jun 2003

Register-Domain-Names Ltd. This is a small company whose line of business is virtual hosting, I was originally taken on here to work on a client’s website which was written in PHP with a mySQL backend. I was offered a fulltime roll after completion of the site. From then on my duties involved maintaining the company’s four redhat servers and one Sun Solaris server as well as developing web solutions for some of their clients. Another of my duties was answering the technical support line. Problems here ranged from something like a Perl/PHP script not working to helping someone setup their email.
